We are very excited and proud to announce that we now offer cold-laser therapy! This is a cutting-edge technology that drastically decreases pain, reduces inflammation, and speeds up healing! It is most commonly used for surgical patients, pain management, and wound repair. It decreases inflammation and stimulates healing in the body in a short, non-invasive session or sessions . Big things are happening here at SMAH and we are so happy to share it with you!
What is it?
Veterinary laser therapy is an innovative tool that works similarly to other alternative therapies such as acupuncture or massage therapy with medications to decrease pain, reduce inflammation, and increase the speed of healing.
It uses specific wavelengths of light to cause photobiomodulation (the alteration of cellular and tissue physiology). The light is absorbed by the cell causing cell growth, cellular repair, and decrease of inflammation.
What conditions can benefit from laser therapy?
Many conditions can benefit from laser therapy such as:
- chronic arthritis
- spay/neuter patients
- tendon & ligament injuries
- chronic or acute ear infections
- oral surgery patients
- gingivitis secondary to a dental cleaning
- degenerative disc dachshunds
- cats: there are very few cat-safe pain medications
How do you do it?
The picture to the right is a standard laser therapy session. The laser is applied to the affected, painful area for a set amount of time, usually about ten minutes. Protective eyewear does have to be worn by everyone with eyeballs in the room.
You can actually see the animal relax over the course of the session. We cannot wait to share this new tool with you all!
